pinkytoe10 asked:

I just bought a Panasonic Plasma TV from Ultimate Electronics. It was an open box value, meaning it had been on display in the store for several months, turned on. While it was in the store, it was contantly running a DVD, meaning it had the black bars on top and bottom for the wider aspect ratio. When I turn the whole thing on now, there are lines where the black bars ended. I’m pretty sure this is typical “burn in” for plasma, but I’d like to know if it could be temporary. Does anyone have any tips on how to remove these faint, but visible lines?

TheNewDoubleStandard asked:

I just bought a 42PZ700U and followed the directions for the first 100 hours. I did play a game, but I made sure to cycle things up and not play for a very long time. Yet I have had a part of the game’s HUD ‘burned’ in the bottom right hand of my screen for over two days (I noticed it about 10 hours after playing the game and haven’t turned the game on since). It’s not terrible as I can only see it when the screen is very dark or very bright, but I do notice it. And it’s a new TV so that’s lame.

Will watching lots of different things during the rest of the 100 hours remove this? Will I have to worry about this after the 100 hours are over – do I have to set an egg timer when playing games so I’m sure to change the channel every hour, or can I actually sit down and enjoy a game?

And what about this Panasonic ‘concierge’ service? Anybody have any luck with that? I’ll wait the full 100 hours before checking into it but man what a let down.

So, is burn-in permanent? Will watching movies really cause it? Will it go away when I watch TV? This issue is a little confusing. (TV is Panasonic TH42PX60U). Thanks!

pogo730 asked:

I’m trying to figure out if I can play a xbox360 on a 50″ Panasonic plasma TV set without causing any visible after-image or burn-in(when the image stays on the screen long after you finish playing regardless of if TV is on or off.) I would have thought this wouldn’t be an issue since the TV says you can display pic’s from a SD card(meaning youd have a static image on) or even hook it to a computer and use like a monitor. What makes me unsure is that after playing the original Xbox for 30min and turning it off I noticed the life bar and ammo bar from the game still visible on the screen. The image was visible for several hours after I was done before finally disappearing, obviously this got me worried that I may ruin my new TV when I finally get the xbox360 and hook it up. I’m confused because xbox360 is made for HD tv’s so I would think I’d be fine. Im also confused why I had the HUD stuff burned in with xbox only to disappear with time. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

cnfoozed asked:

I Just bought a panasonic TH-42px60u. So I LOVED this TV everytime I saw it – in the stores, at a friends place, even just reading the specs online.
But somehow in my living room the PQ just doesn’t measure up!
I have Comcast service (Seattle Area, Motorola dual tuner DVR) and the SD channels suck. The HD channels keep showing up with bars on the right and left even though I adjusted the settings on the Moto box. (16:9, component – 1080i, 4:3 override set to stretch).
The TV is at Standard right now, with some brightness and sharpness adjustments.

I hate the idea that I have to keep changing the aspect ratio for the HD programming. And I don’t want to watch with the black bars for burn-in reasons and it just looks ugly.

Moreover the HD picture looks bad! It’s pixelated and annoying.

Does anyone else have the same problem? If you have the same TV and comcast service please help me.

If I was watching a channel for a really long time that was seceptible to burn in, if I simply changed the channel very briefly every so often, would that “refresh” my screen and essentially make the process of image retention “start over”? Or would it not make any difference to change the channel if I immediately changed back to what I was previously watching?
